Swimmers Amalie Fackenthal and Joe Zales at the section championships at Tokay High School in Lodi.

Sophomore Amalie Fackenthal wins two section titles and breaks the section record in the 50 freestyle.

At the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Championship, sophomore Amalie Fackenthal won the varsity 50 and 100 freestyle, breaking the section record in the 50 free. Freshman Joe Zales also placed, finishing in 5th place in the varsity 500-free.

Zales and Fackenthal represented SCDS at the Section Swimming Championship Finals held at Tokay High School in Lodi. Competing at the event were the top swimmers and divers from nearly 100 Northern California schools, spanning across all divisions and leagues. Amalie won both the varsity 50-yard and the 100-yard freestyle events with times of 22.75 and 49.26, respectively. Joe placed 5th overall in the varsity 500-yard free with a time of 4:43:10.

Amalie’s section win qualified her for the California High School State Championships, but she will need to miss States as she has a training commitment for the US Olympic Team trials.
