Dear Country Day Community,

This year, our Middle School is offering a new 7th grade elective called Social Justice. The course, taught by Madame Meyers, examines the questions: “What is happening in the world today? How do we understand the issues affecting society at large? Why should we care?”

This week, students learned more about how to conduct fact-based research on social justice topics they are interested in learning more about such as racism, immigration, and LGBTQ rights. They also learned how to use Canva.com, a free web-based design program, to create Instagram content that will eventually be shared on Country Day’s Instagram page.

Country Day students of all ages have always been passionate about thinking critically about the society around them and the role they play in shaping a more inclusive world. However, this year in particular, it is refreshing to see our students actively engaged in exploring ways to promote equity and understanding on our campus and beyond.

Be sure to follow @saccds on Instagram and watch for their content in the coming weeks. I can’t wait to see what they create!

Warmly,

Lee Thomsen
Head of School
