Country Day Athletic Difference

Post

Country Day offers the most comprehensive athletic program in the Sac-Joaquin Section. In most years, the school organizes close to 40 teams in 14 different sports, and in the 2016-2017 school year almost 80% of high school and middle school students are participating in athletics. Student athletes develop skills in leadership, teamwork, goal setting, mental toughness, sportsmanship and confidence.

Sacramento Country Day School employs a skilled coaching staff, most of whom played at the collegiate level in their respective sports. Coaches demonstrate a true passion for their disciplines and work to instill their love for their sport in our students. Our coaches appreciate working with motivated, respectful and intelligent student athletes, and most have long and successful tenures at Country Day. This formula of coaching longevity and inspired athletes has led to over 10% of our recent graduates playing college athletics at colleges and universities throughout the country.

Country Day is also known for supporting students in exploring new interests, and athletics is an important part of this tradition. College-bound athletes not only compete in their strongest sport. They have the ability to play on other teams, as well as to participate in the many co-curricular activities offered by Country Day. We encourage all of our athletes to play multiple sports and stress that they not limit themselves to “one sport” mentality that is prevalent in high school athletics at other schools. Finally, our no-cut policy offers every interested student a chance to benefit from all that athletics has to offer and the experience of playing sports in high school.
