Aleyah H. (‘25) Scores Points On and Off the Court
Women's History In The Making

Post

As a scholar-athlete, 8th grader Aleyah H. (‘25) takes her school work just as seriously as she does her sports. She has been playing basketball since she was 5 years old, and soccer since the first grade. She practices soccer three times per week and basketball 4-5 times per week. While she is a great competitive soccer player, she says she loves basketball and dreams of playing for the WNBA.

This year, because of COVID restrictions, she hasn’t been able to play as many basketball games as she would like, but that hasn’t stopped her from improving her game. She has been improving her shooting, handling skills, and is learning how to read the defense better and find options on the court. Over the years, her hard work has earned her medals and trophies, including awards for 1-on-1 and 3-on-3 tournaments at Stanford University’s basketball camps.

In fact, Aleyah set her sights on attending Stanford when she completed a project in the fourth grade about the University. With her academic goals in mind, she makes sure to get her assignments done before her practices and she consistently scores a 3.9+ GPA landing her on the Honor Roll each quarter. Her favorite academic subjects are math and English because she likes that she can learn something new every day.

“I have played many sports at Country Day and it has made me a better student by helping me figure out how to manage my time and not procrastinate by getting things done. I really love basketball and I’d love to keep playing it. And if I get to do it as a job that is even better!” says Aleyah.

Congratulations, Aleyah! We are so proud of you and can’t wait to see what you will do next.
