Beyond the Classroom
Learning By Doing
An important aspect of our Sacramento Country Day education is the opportunity to take our teaching out of the classroom and apply it to real life experiences, enhanced peer-to-peer interactions, and deep-dive studies around our community that support our units of study. Each grade level enjoys multiple off campus experiences to support their learning over the course of the year including:
-
Effie Yeaw
-
Fog Willow Farms
-
Sacramento Theater Company
-
Sacramento State Vivarium & Planetarium
-
California Raptor Center
-
Sutter’s Fort
-
Angel Island
-
NatureBridge at Golden Gate
-
Fairytale Town
-
Mills Station
-
Nimbus Fish Hatchery
And many many more that evolve in support of the curriculum.
Garden Growth
Led by our garden expert Rory Tira, the campus garden is an exceptional place to learn and “grow” on our campus. Our students are involved weekly in projects related to planting, harvesting, studying science, art creation and just enjoying the simple beauty of the outdoors.
Our garden grows food in support of donations to the River City Food Bank, as well as the animals at Fairytale Town in Land Park. Student involvement in all aspects of the process of food growth and donation to our community reinforces the principles of compassion and kindness we value as a Country Day community and strive to bring out in each child.
