The High School Robotics team, "Hoot and Compute" #24123, is part of the FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC), an international robotics competition. FTC teams design, build, and program robots to navigate arenas, overcome obstacles, and complete specific challenges to score points. Each season features a unique Robot Game that tests students' creativity, engineering, and problem-solving skills.
"Hoot and Compute" is a student-led team supported by faculty coaches Yanling Lei and Middle School Robotics coach Cade Grunst, with additional guidance from engineer Max Boykin. The program fosters collaboration, critical thinking, and technical expertise, making it a cornerstone of our STEM offerings.
Country Day is proud to host FTC events, bringing together teams from the NorCal North-East FTC League to showcase their innovations and compete in League Meets. Teams’ performance throughout the season determines their placement in the final League Tournament, with top teams advancing to regional championships.
FTC Robotics is offered as a full-year high school elective. Students gain hands-on experience in engineering, programming, and strategic planning while building teamwork and leadership skills. Enrollment opens at the start of each school year. For more information, visit the FIRST website.
