DECA: Building Future-Ready Business Leaders
DECA is a Career & Technical Student Organization that prepares students for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality, management, and entrepreneurship. There are over 300,000 DECA members in over 4,000 high schools nationwide.
The DECA program provides students with hands-on opportunities to explore business, marketing, entrepreneurship, and leadership through experiential learning. Designed to connect concepts with real-world applications, the program challenges students to develop practical skills in communication, problem-solving, and strategic thinking.
Students participate in a range of activities that mirror real business environments, including:
- comprehensive exams
- role-play scenarios
- presentations where students apply business knowledge to realistic challenges
- development of business plans and marketing campaigns
- market research and ideas refinement
- strategy presentations to industry professionals

A unique feature of the program is Cavaliers & Co., a student-run spirit wear organization. Through this venture, DECA students design and produce custom apparel for the Country Day community as well as groups throughout the greater Sacramento area. Students manage the full process from concept and design to production, sales, and distribution, gaining firsthand experience in entrepreneurship, branding, and operations

Professional development is another core component of the program. Through workshops and collaboration with peers from other schools, students strengthen leadership skills, build confidence in professional settings, and gain practical insights into areas such as interviewing, networking, and career preparation.
DECA also emphasizes student leadership and collaboration. Chapter officers and student delegates help guide the organization and participate in leadership processes at the state level, giving students a voice in shaping the broader DECA community.
