The Matthews Library, which serves the Middle and High Schools, is a bright, lively space filled with materials to support classwork. It also boasts cozy reading, a quiet study space, and a librarian and an assistant librarian that are always eager to help (and sometimes provide chocolate and/or tea). Library displays reflect a variety of topics, including student favorites as well as current topics of interest. The Library Program includes support for classes as well as extracurricular pursuits. 

Students are given the skills they will need to be successful and thoughtful researchers. For their year-long Sophomore Projects, this includes multiple drafts of a research paper and a presentation. The top 10 presenters deliver their presentations to the community and compete for prizes, while the top writers get prizes at the annual High School Awards Ceremony. Older students reinforce and refine skills used in the Sophomore Project, so they’re ready for college research.

The Matthews Library is not only a place for research, studying, and sporadic tea-drinking but also a place that we are proud to say promotes lifelong habits of learning and reading. The Library encourages a love of reading, from Shakespeare to economics to zombie novels. We encourage civic engagement and promote an awareness of and a desire to make a difference in the world around our students.

Our collection of more than 17,000 curriculum-oriented titles includes print books, e-books, periodicals, and films. Our fiction and non-fiction titles strive to represent the world’s diversity of race, nationality, gender, sexual orientation, ability, faith, and political persuasion.

We subscribe to numerous databases useful for student research, including Infotrac, Daily Life Through History, and Global Issues in Context.

The library is open from 7:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Please come by and utilize this important space and resource on our campus!
