Turning Compassion into Connection

In May, Angelica (Jelly) M., Class of '31, received the 2026 Sacramento Directors of Volunteers in Agencies (DOVIA) Youth Volunteer of the Year Award for creating an Adopt-a-Grandparent Program at Blossom Vale Senior Living Center in Orangevale.

As part of this innovative program, Jelly has visited her adopted grandmother weekly since January 2024. She recruits other Girl Scouts to be matched with an adopted grandparent. Additionally, she compiled family recipes from the residents to create a booklet that they gave to family and friends over the holidays.

Jelly’s service reflects the kind of thoughtful, compassionate leadership we hope to inspire in every Country Day student.
