Cultivating Community

At Country Day, community service is more than an activity. It is a way for students to practice compassion, build meaningful connections, and understand the impact they can have on the lives of others.

During a visit to Ivy Park Assisted Living this summer, middle school Camp Cavalier students worked alongside residents to create flower arrangements for their apartments and shared spaces. As they arranged bouquets, they also shared stories, listened closely, asked thoughtful questions, and offered simple gestures of kindness and care.

Some students partnered one-on-one with residents, while others prepared vases of flowers for dining rooms, gathering spaces, and common areas throughout the community. Before leaving, students cleaned up the workspace so Ivy Park staff would not have extra work to do.

Led by our Garden Coordinator, Rory Tira, the experience was a powerful reminder of what service can look like at Country Day: thoughtful, joyful, generous, and rooted in genuine human connection.
