Where Service Meets Impact: A Student’s Journey to Rulindo

Where Service Meets Impact: A Student’s Journey to Rulindo

Over Mid-Winter Break, Mayuri K. ‘28 traveled to Rwanda and was offered a powerful reminder of what it means to learn beyond the classroom. Visiting our sister schools in Rulindo, Mayuri experienced vibrant, joyful learning environments where curiosity and ambition thrive, even in the absence of basic resources like books, technology, and classroom materials.

The experience also brought to life the impact of Country Day’s ongoing partnerships. Efforts that begin here at our fundraising events are making a meaningful difference in Rulindo, supporting schools, health centers, and essential resources. Mayuri saw that “fundraising wasn’t just an activity. It is a bridge from my community to theirs. It was proof that what we do at school can travel farther than we imagine.”

Mayuri shares that her trip “was about partnership, listening first, learning second, and serving with respect.” Most importantly, the trip reinforced a lasting lesson that service is not defined by scale, but by consistency, intention, and connection. Mayuri has created a beautiful and engaging reflection of her time in Rulindo, you can read it here.

Our annual Play-a-thon event in support of Rulindo is coming up on Wednesday, May 27.
