Student Achievement in AI

Lorie L. ‘30 and Emily F. ‘30 recently won 1st place in the “AI for Social Impact” competition, organized by Math Kangaroo and MehtA+. Through this competition, students in grades 7–12 applied artificial intelligence to real-world challenges such as environmental sustainability, education, and public health.

Lorie and Emily developed an environmental awareness application called PureIndex, which evaluates consumer products based on sustainability factors such as materials, sourcing transparency, and price fairness. Their app features both a consumer-facing (B2C) interface and a business-facing (B2B) interface. On the consumer side, users can scan or search products and receive a sustainability score with detailed breakdowns. On the business side, companies can submit product data, which is then analyzed by AI to generate a certification-style score, encouraging more transparent and environmentally responsible practices.

Lorie and Emily’s work on PureIndex is a wonderful example of Country Day students using creativity, critical thinking, and emerging technology to address real-world challenges with purpose. Congratulations!
