Middle School Students Power Up at The KidWind Challenge

Last Friday, ten of our Middle School students took part in the KidWind Challenge Jr., a hands-on wind turbine design competition hosted by SMUD and KidWind. More than one hundred students from across the region designed, built, and tested their own wind turbines in a wind tunnel while learning about renewable energy and SMUD’s 2030 Zero Carbon Plan.

Students competed to win awards during the event. Both of our Country Day teams earned an award for best presentation, and one team received the "Grit" Award for perseverance. Each team member also took home a wind turbine kit to continue the fun. Most importantly, they learned to think critically, troubleshoot, and problem-solve like real engineers.

We are proud to see our middle schoolers representing Country Day and taking on this exciting science challenge!
