Getting to Know Middle School SEL

Getting to Know Middle School SEL

Our Middle School students engage in regular SEL (Social Emotional Learning) classes throughout their year, utilizing Second Step®, a research-based social-emotional learning program designed specifically for their age group. Through engaging lessons and discussions, students learn to understand and manage their emotions, set and achieve positive goals, show empathy for others, build healthy relationships, and make responsible decisions. The curriculum is organized into four units - Mindsets & Goals, Developing a Positive Sense of Self, Thoughts, Emotions & Decisions, and Managing Relationships & Social Conflict—each helping students strengthen the human skills that support their well-being and success in school and beyond.

This dynamic program is taught by Kelly Clancey, our new Middle and High School Counselor, who brings over 20 years of experience as a credentialed school counselor and licensed clinician in children’s behavioral health, and by Rory Tira, our 8th grade SEL teacher with more than 20 years of teaching experience and master’s work focused on the transition to high school, making her especially attuned to supporting students as they prepare for the next stage of their educational journey.
