Business & Finance at Country Day

Business & Finance at Country Day

Faculty member Brian Hemsworth joined our community last fall as a Middle School Math teacher and High School DECA team advisor. Mr. Hemsworth also teaches Money Matters and Businesses, Bosses, & Brands electives in the Middle School. He was recently included in Next Gen Personal Finance's recognition of the newest group of Distinguished Educators. He joins just over 1,500 teachers nationwide.

A great example of the power of this education happened when 8th grade students from the Money Matters course, Aniket and Ximena, visited a 3rd grade class to lead a student-designed lesson summarizing key personal finance concepts.

Our current Businesses, Bosses, & Brands students are running small businesses on campus including snack shack, drink business, ASE snack business, and school supply business. Students are experiencing firsthand what it feels like to attract customers, manage inventory, handle transactions, and respond to real-time demand.

Additionally, under Mr. Hemsworth's leadership, two Country Day teams from our high school DECA group qualified for the in-person round of the Entrepreneurs Club Business Pitch Competition last night. A very exciting business plan competition that brought great experience and polish to their budding entrepreneurial ideas and presentation skills. We are excited to see what comes next as these incredible areas of business and finance are built up across our school!

"I’m thankful to be part of a community that supports this kind of cross-divisional collaboration and student-driven learning." - Brian Hemsworth
