Mission In Action: Diversity

Mission In Action: Diversity

Each year, the Advanced Topics in English Literature classes, led by Jason Hinojosa in our High School, reads The Laramie Project by Moisés Kaufman. This play focuses on the aftermath of the 1998 murder of a gay man named Matthew Shepard. As a supplement to our studies, Country Day annually hosts a Queer Voices panel of people who identify as LGBTQ+ and who wish to share their personal perspectives with our community. Last year, this panel was composed of Country Day students; this year, a panel of four Country Day staffulty members -- May Mercury, Amanda Quezada, Denise Santos, and Grace Strumpfer -- volunteered to share their perspectives. The panel's primary purposes are to celebrate and support our LGBTQ+ community members, and to broaden both the academic and personal conversations started by reading The Laramie Project. Our Country Day community celebrates diversity in all forms and welcomes opportunities like this to talk openly about various perspectives.
