Lower School Teacher Training for a Writing Revolution

Lower School Teacher Training for a Writing Revolution

Country Day teachers are lifelong learners who are always striving to improve their teaching. Many Lower School faculty members spent summer time learning more about thoughtful, systematic writing instruction by taking The Writing Revolution training and will be adjusting their writing instruction and grade-level curriculum maps accordingly.

Constructing effective sentences is the foundation of good writing, so students begin to identify what makes a good sentence orally in Pre-K and Kindergarten and then continue to work on developing more complicated sentences with varied structures throughout their elementary years. They learn to construct paragraphs in 2nd through 4th grades and begin to plan and write multi-paragraph compositions in 5th grade in preparation for Middle School. The Writing Revolution exercises are embedded in the content of the curriculum so students practice their writing skills across all subjects, and students learn about all the stages of the writing process by the end of their Lower School career.
