Inspirational Art in the High School

As a tribute to our community and as a reminder of the tenuous strength of a truly compassionate environment, each of our High School classrooms will soon have a poster of ‘24 Katie E.'s summer reading artwork.

The piece is based on the all-high school project on last summer’s reading, John Green’s The Anthropocene Reviewed, which all students read over the summer and discussed in opening English classes. Each advisory contributed words and phrases to a Google doc that described the ways in which we can productively disagree, and those words and phrases were entered into a word cloud program that Katie used to inspire her commission.

The original hangs in the High School office, and high-quality reproductions are posted in each classroom to remind us of the norms of productive discussion and disagreement. Head of High School Brooke Wells shares, “Her work will serve as inspiration for us all as we journey ever forward in our mission to build this extraordinary school, every day and with every one of these kiddos.”
