STEAM is for more than just our older students at Country Day. STEAM Stations in Kindergarten help students learn about the world around us! Every other week, the Kindergartners get to experiment, investigate, problem-solve, create and explore. Each set of STEAM Stations have a unified theme that often enriches what they are learning about in class, or what is happening at that time in the world. Teacher April Sanders shares, “We are grateful to have the opportunity for parent volunteers to come help lead these stations and get a glimpse of what it is like watching kindergartners in action.”
Science Station
We used our five senses to try different fruits harvested in the fall (apples, pumpkins, figs, dates, and pomegranates).
Technology Station
We used the iPads to learn facts about Johnny Appleseed and then found the “seed star” inside the apple and stamped them with paint.
Engineering Station
We worked together to make a scarecrow and talked about what is the same about scarecrows and human bodies and what is different.
Art Station
We created pumpkins in different ways. One with salt and watercolor. The other with marbles and tempera paint.
Math Station
We created patterns with Q-Tips and paint on some calico corn!
