In the Spotlight—Building Community in our Middle School
In Middle School, we are actively building community while remembering the importance of fun. Advisory can be used for extra help or study halls, but, more importantly, it offers opportunities for whole community activities, small group discussions, or one-on-one advice from a faculty member. Students know their advisors are their advocates, their support system, and their cheerleaders depending on what's needed at any given time.
This year we have added a series of "Middle School Community Events" starting with Orientation in August involving advisory group challenges and competitions. Our last event included a series of whole middle school relay races culminating with this hula hoop tic-tac-toe last Friday. There was a lot of energy, cheering, and laughter as a good time was had by all!
