Breakthrough Sacramento Celebrates 30 Years!

Sacramento News & Review recently helped recognize and celebrate 30 years of the incredible Breakthrough Sacramento program supporting economically disadvantaged students in our area. It’s been a treasured partnership for all those years with Country Day and Breakthrough staff and students.

“Breakthrough Sacramento was founded in 1994 and was hosted by Sacramento Country Day School until becoming independent in 2017,” according to Executive Director, Faith Galati. The Breakthrough summer program is six weeks of learning and field trips for middle school students, as well as teaching opportunities for high school and college students.

According to Galati, “100% of their 60 students who completed their program in the last two years graduated from high school and were accepted to a four-year college.” She said “of these students, around 78% were economically disadvantaged.” Many Breakthrough students have also gone on to be Country Day graduates.

On April 18, Breakthrough Sacramento celebrated 30 years of impact at their Fun-raiser, “Are You Smarter Than a Breakthrough Student!” Alumni Parent, Gail Graham and former Head, Dan White were honored for founding Breakthrough. Country Day Staff and Faculty attended in support of the long lasting partnership of our programs. Five out of six Summerbridge/Breakthrough Directors were in attendance and pictured here including Heather Hughes, Nancy Nagramada, Laura Monahan, Adolfo Mercado and Faith Galati.
