Ashlie Kirby and Orff Shulwerk

The Orff Schulwerk approach is a way of teaching music and dance to children in the way they learn best - play! Ashlie Kirby teaches Music and Movement in PK-3rd Grade and uses this process that is over 100 years old but remains fresh and is reimagined anew with every group of children because it honors the child as the artist. Children are taught the basic elements of music and dance so they may improvise and compose. They takes a simple text or children’s rhyme, add pitch to make it a song, add movement to create a dance and once the song and dance are embodied they transfer it to the Orff instruments. 

Come out for Winter Concert on December 16th and enjoy her meaningful work with our students. Ashlie has a BFA in Dance and Masters in Dance Education and while in NYC she received the prestigious New York Dance and Performance Award.
