20th Annual Greek Olympics

20th Annual Greek Olympics

Last week we celebrated the 20th Annual 6th Grade Greek Olympics! The annual Greek Olympics commenced with a torch lighting ceremony to mark the start of the day. Students then competed in advisories representing their chosen city states in various events to mark the culmination of their study of ancient Greece.

The shields are based upon the Greek Hoplon shield used by the Greek Hoplite heavy infantry. The students built them at home, and then painted a symbol or image on the front that they feel resonates with them from ancient Greece. This is also accompanied by a short presentation in class. It's an exciting annual event on the Country Day campus, and an incredible day of bringing history studies to life for our 6th graders!
