Lower School Teaching Assistant
Sacramento Country Day School, a leader in Pre-Kindergarten - 12th grade independent school education since 1964, seeks a full-time Teaching Assistant (with 100% employer paid medical, dental and vision benefit premiums) to join our Lower School team of educators. Serving more than 580 students. Country Day’s mission is to “inspire intellectual discovery and engage a diverse community to think critically, live creatively, and act compassionately.“ The pay range for this position is $23.50-$25.50 per hour.
An ideal position for a retired or newly minted classroom teacher, our next Teaching Assistant will support the work of teachers, lead learning groups at the direction of the teachers, provide supervision for early care and ASE as well as the playground and at lunch, occasionally cover the whole class as needed for Lower School teachers, prepping materials, and assist in classroom activities.
Requirements
The successful candidate will have the following attributes:
- ECE units are a plus/Bachelor’s degree (could be in progress)
- Success working with children in a classroom setting
- Patience, kindness, and an overtly warm manner with children
- Ability to set boundaries with children in a firm but loving way
- Ability to support the social-emotional growth of students and support problem-solving and conflict resolution
- Ability to run a learning group or activity with direction from the classroom teacher, but also have the sense of initiative to devise and lead activities.
- Confidence taking over whole class activities on occasion with a lesson plan from the teacher
- Flexibility is a must as this person will be working with multiple grades and teachers.
- Assistant will be assigned to a kindergarten classroom, and will have additional supervising roles with 1st - 5th grade students.
School requirements: background check, first Aid/CPR, negative TB result, etc.
Hours are 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday - Friday.

Middle & High School Counselor
Sacramento Country Day School, the regional leader in Pre-Kindergarten through 12th grade independent school education since 1964, seeks a full-time counselor and SEL teacher in our Middle School (grades 6-8) and High School (grades 9-12) for the 2025-26 school year. This is a full-time position with 100% employer paid medical, dental, and vision premiums (employee only). The salary range for this position is between $75,000 - $100,000 depending on education and experience.
This position will include counseling Middle and High School students as well as teaching Social-Emotional Learning classes to Middle School students. Candidates will also be prepared to integrate themselves into the life of the school, including, but not limited to, participating in department and team meetings and chaperoning field trips.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Counseling students in middle and high school regarding short-term social and emotional issues, individually or in small groups.
- Teaching Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) lessons to middle school students, developing a comprehensive SEL curriculum for three grade-levels.
- Working with high school advisory groups to workshop responses to micro-aggressions, harassment, and other relevant issues.
- Identifying students who may need targeted or intensive services, making referrals to families to outside counselors/therapists outside of school for long-term support.
- Maintaining communication, including all legal clearances, with families, and the school on student social and emotional matters.
- Participating on the Student Support Team and attending all grade-level and division meetings.
- Provide support and teach basic skills to teachers to help students manage their emotional, social, and academic responsibilities.
- Partnering with Administration about students and curriculum needs.
Requirements:
The successful candidate will have the following attributes:
- A Bachelor’s or higher degree in School Counseling, Child Psychology, or a related field
- Three years of experience working in a school setting
- Experience with school-age students plus the ability to support the school mission in all aspects of the counseling experience
- Ability to communicate well, with teachers and families, to apply effective interventions in classrooms and individual student behavior

Full Time K-12 Learning Specialist
Sacramento Country Day School, the regional leader in Pre-K-12th grade independent school education since 1964, seeks a Learning Specialist for students in Kindergarten through Grade 12. This is a full-time position with benefits (100% employer-paid medical, dental, and vision premiums for employee only), beginning August 16, 2025. The salary range is $52,000 - $95,000 depending on education and years of experience.
The learning specialist role will be split 60% Lower School and 40% Middle and High School and include:
- Assisting with administering standardized benchmarking assessments
- Planning and implementing intervention lessons with students who need Tier 2 academic intervention 1:1 and in small groups
- Reviewing our Tier 1 literacy and math curriculum and helping teachers make accommodations to support students in their classrooms
- Conducting classroom observations of students
- Meeting with parents about their children's progress and suggestions on how to support academic growth at home
- Planning informational meetings for parents on literacy and numeracy development
- Writing individualized Learning Profiles for students based on the interventions and accommodations outlined in their educational evaluations
- Attending and participating in Student Support Team meetings
- Working closely with learning support team to coordinate schedules and plans
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s in special education, Master’s degree preferred
- Experience teaching Orton-Gillingham-based phonics lessons, Wilson Fundations preferred
- Familiarity with all areas of literacy and numeracy development
- Knowledge of Everyday Mathematics and Responsive Classroom are a plus
- Experience working with students of different age groups and ability
- Advanced communication skills
- A commitment to advancing diversity, equity, inclusivity, and belonging

Substitute Teachers
Sacramento Country Day School, the regional leader in PK-12th grade independent school education since 1964, is continually seeking qualified substitutes for all grade levels/subjects.
Requirements
- Substitutes for Pre-Kindergarten must provide proof of a minimum of 6 ECE units.
- All other grade levels (K-12) require at least a B.A. and experience working with students.
- All candidates must pass a criminal background check and provide proof of a negative TB test before working with students.
