The Winters Lower School Library
Serving SCDS students and faculty in grades PK – Five
The very first SCDS library was a trailer purchased with Parents' Association funds in 1970. Georgia Rust was president of the association at that time, as well as the mother of two Country Day students. She presided over the lower school library from 1973 to 2000. When Mrs. Rust retired, the school declared May 26, 2000, Georgia Rust Day, and the library where she had spent almost thirty years was named in her honor. That same year, Cary Kelly, a long-time SCDS sixth grade teacher and credentialed librarian, assumed Georgia’s duties. Mrs. Kelly’s connection to the Rust Library had begun years earlier when her son Clay was a kindergarten student at SCDS and Cary was Georgia’s library volunteer.
In 2008, a magnificent new library facility was made possible through the generosity of John, Debra, and Kayla (Class of 2009) Winters.
Cultivating a passion for books, reading, and learning is the heart of the Winters Library program. Instruction in information literacy, a variety of library celebrations, and an outstanding collection of children's literature support and inspire Country Day's youngest community of readers and researchers.
